How Sleepy is Petoskey and Harbor Springs?

Not very.  According to a new study, we are sleeping better than many in the State and even across the Country.  Most experts agree that you need seven or more hours of sleep a night.  So how much sleep did Harbor Springs and Petoskey get last year?

In Emmet County, 69 percent reported getting at least 7 hours of sleep at night.  Across the rest of the country, one in three adults don’t get seven hours of sleep. These numbers come from a study conducted by the Center for Disease Control on health. For the first time, insufficient sleep has been added as a measuring factor in the County Health Rankings.

The County Health Rankings, synthesizes data collected from the National Center for Health Statistics and the Centers for Disease Control.  The study monitors how healthy a County is by measuring two types of health outcomes: how long people live and how healthy people feel while alive.

In the study, insufficient sleep is measured by the percentage of adults who report fewer than 7 hours of sleep on average.

Data is compiled from answers reported via the question:

“On average, how many hours of sleep do you get in a 24-hour period? Think about the time you actually spend sleeping or napping, not just the amount of sleep you think you should get.”
